Generic Medicines for Lifestyle Diseases Lead Sales at India’s Janaushadhi Kendras

Government-run generic pharmacies in India, known as Janaushadhi Kendras, have seen a surge in sales of medicines for lifestyle diseases like hypertension and diabetes. Telmisartan, atorvastatin, pantoprazole and domperidone, and glimepiride/metformin combinations are among the top-selling drugs, indicating a growing demand for affordable healthcare solutions. The program aims to increase the number of Kendras to 25,000 by 2026, making quality generic medicines accessible to a wider population.
