Google’s I/O 2024 keynote showcased a brief glimpse of smart glasses during the Project Astra demonstration. However, the presentation provided no introduction or explanation, leaving viewers puzzled and disappointed. Despite its pioneering efforts in smart glasses a decade ago with Google Glass, Google has yet to introduce a modern interpretation with advanced AI capabilities. Meanwhile, competitors such as Ray-Ban Meta, Solos, Brilliant Labs, Oppo, and XRAI are actively developing and releasing smart glasses with AI integration. Google’s continued absence from this growing market raises concerns about its commitment to innovation and its ability to compete with the latest technological advancements.
