Cincinnati Zoo Gives Gorilla Gladys a Gorilla-Proof Cast

The Cincinnati Zoo has equipped 11-year-old gorilla Gladys with a custom-made 3D-printed titanium cast after she broke her arm in a scuffle. The cast was designed by GE Additive and took around 65 hours to print. It is made of the same materials as the screws and plates used in Gladys’ surgery and is designed to withstand the strength of a gorilla. Gladys will wear the cast for around four weeks while she heals. The zoo’s zoological manager of primates, Victoria McGee, said Gladys is tolerating the cast better than her previous one and will be able to explore more areas of the zoo once it comes off.
