Man Detained for Bogus Voting After Live-Streaming from Poll Booth in Gujarat

A man has been detained in Gujarat’s Dahod Lok Sabha constituency for allegedly engaging in bogus voting. The incident came to light when the man, identified as Vijay Bhabhor, live-streamed his actions from inside a poll booth on Instagram. Bhabhor is accused of impersonating other voters and casting votes on their behalf. The Congress party has alleged that Bhabhor is the son of a local BJP leader and has accused him of ‘insulting democracy’. The incident is being investigated by authorities, and two persons have been detained.

With the scrutiny of nominations for the Lok Sabha elections and five Assembly bypolls in Gujarat concluding, a clear picture has emerged ahead of the third phase of polling on May 7. According to the final list released by the Election Commission, 266 candidates are in the fray for the Lok Sabha elections, while 24 candidates will contest the Assembly bypolls. The contest for Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seat has the highest number of candidates at 18, while Bardoli, a seat reserved for Scheduled Tribes, has the least with only three candidates.
