Alleged Sacrilege Incident in Ferozepur: 19-Year-Old Killed in Attack

A 19-year-old man named Bakshish Singh was killed in an attack following an alleged sacrilege incident at a gurdwara in Ferozepur, Punjab. According to police, Bakshish allegedly tore pages of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs, and tried to flee. He was caught by villagers, who thrashed him, leading to his death. The police have filed an FIR against Bakshish for sacrilege, while his father has requested the police to also register a case against those responsible for his son’s death. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has condemned the incident and called for a social and religious boycott of the accused’s family.

SGPC’s Missing Holy Books Spur Independent Candidates in Punjab

Concerned over the unresolved disappearance of 328 copies of the sacred Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib from Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) records, the Sikh Sadhbawna Dal (SDD) has fielded independent candidates in three Punjab constituencies to draw attention to the issue. Despite approaching authorities and legal recourse since 2021, the group alleges a lack of progress and a shaken faith in the justice system. The SDD has thus fielded candidates in Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib, and Ferozepur to highlight their demand for retrieving the missing holy books.
