K-Pop’s Global Domination: A Phenomenon Beyond Music

K-pop, the popular Korean music genre, continues to captivate the world, breaking through the music industry bubble and amassing a global fan base that shows no signs of slowing down. With groups like Blackpink, BTS, Twice, Aespa, and NewJeans leading the charge, the captivating sound and aesthetic have become a worldwide sensation, surpassing mere musical success. The number of ‘hallyu’ (Korean wave) fans surpassed 178 million last year, according to a report by the Korea Foundation, an affiliate of South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking an increase from 156 million in 2021 and nearly 20 times the fan population from 11 years ago.
