The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has confirmed that Diwali will be celebrated on October 31, 2023, coinciding with the Amavasya, the new moon phase. The announcement settles any confusion about the exact date and clarifies that the festivities will begin on the evening of October 31. In Ayodhya, the Deepotsav, a grand celebration of lights, was held on October 30, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti. Thousands of diyas were lit on the banks of the Saryu River, making this year’s Deepotsav particularly significant as it marked the first since the consecration of the Ram Lalla temple in January 2023.

On the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, a jovial group of 13 Hanuman maladharis from Heggasanalli village embarked on a reverential padayatra to the sacred Krishna River. However, their pilgrimage took a heart-wrenching turn when a recklessness-induced collision with a speeding SUV shattered their journey. Three individuals, Ayyanagouda, Mahesh, and Uday Kumar, lost their lives on impact, while two others sustained severe injuries.
