A destructive brush fire, dubbed the Hawarden Fire, ripped through a Riverside County neighborhood on Sunday, causing significant damage. At least three homes were destroyed, and several others were damaged, leading to evacuation orders. The fire, which quickly spread due to the area’s topography and high temperatures, was estimated at 527 acres with 20% containment by Monday morning. Another fire, the Eagle Fire, burned 1,609 acres to the east of Corona, while a smaller blaze, the Saddle Fire, was contained at under 3 acres. Evacuation orders for the Hawarden Fire were lifted Monday morning, but firefighters continued to work on extinguishing hot spots.
