Orange Lutheran’s left-handed senior pitcher Brianne Weiss has secured a remarkable 2023 season, guiding her team to an undefeated Trinity League title and establishing herself as a leading force in county softball. With an impressive 16-1 record, an ERA of 0.55, and 206 strikeouts in 109 1/3 innings, Weiss has surpassed even her own stellar performance of 2023. Her unwavering focus, coupled with the support of a strong offense and defense, has paved the way for Orange Lutheran’s success this year. The team’s sights are now set on the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, where they aim to showcase their exceptional skills and contend for the championship title.
Overfelt High School’s Daijaah Jones and Mya Eti put on an offensive clinic, leading the Royals to a mercy-rule victory over James Lick. San Ramon Valley also dominated with a mercy-rule win, while Berean Christian, Burlingame, Milpitas, Lincoln, Terra Nova, Monte Vista, and California all claimed victories. Mt. Eden rallied to defeat winless Mission San Jose.
Hershey defeated Gettysburg 11-3 in a high-scoring softball game, with McKinley Ebert and Maddie Bowe leading the way. Ebert had a 3-for-4 performance with a double and three RBIs, while Bowe struck out 11 batters in seven innings on the mound and also contributed offensively with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate.
Immaculate Heart came out victorious over No. 17 Randolph with a score of 12-6 in Washington Township. This win marks the second consecutive victory for Immaculate Heart after a tough losing streak.
In baseball, Andy Choi and Jameson Bryant drove in two runs each to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 7-2 victory against visiting Yarmouth. Arlo Boutureira led the Freeport Falcons with two base hits and an RBI against Poland, while Jaiden Meehan collected three RBI and Shane Plummer had three hits for Lake Region in their win over Traip Academy. Sam Almy put the Greely Rangers ahead for good with a bases-clearing double in the first inning against Fryeburg Academy, and Caleb Vacchiano blasted two home runs and finished with five RBI as the Sacopee Valley Hawks downed Gray-New Gloucester. In softball, Addie Caiazzo had three hits, including a solo home run, and Kennedy Kimball pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Windham beat Deering. Ruby Chase had three hits with four RBI, Sadie Armstrong and Ainsley McCrum combined on a no-hitter, and Portland handled Falmouth. Andrea DiMauro had two RBI, Annalise Soucy added two hits, and South Portland scored five runs in the sixth inning against Bonny Eagle. Izzy George pitched a four-hitter and Freeport went ahead for good with a two-run fifth inning against Poland, while McKayla Kortes tossed a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts to carry York over Wells. In boys’ lacrosse, Nathan Bolduc finished with three goals and three assists as Wells topped Traip Academy, and in girls’ lacrosse, Abby Trainor totaled seven goals and an assist as Windham defeated Lewiston.
Rylee Michalak’s dominant performance on the mound led Notre Dame to a 3-1 victory over Hightstown. Michalak struck out 14 batters and allowed only one hit, leading the Irish to their seventh win of the season. Despite Angelina Benitez’s lone hit for Hightstown, Notre Dame’s Gracyn Antosiewicz and Cara Mazzucco contributed two hits each, while Bianca Pesca drove in two runs.
Ava Fisher led St. Joseph of Hammonton to an 11-1 victory over Millville, hitting two home runs and driving in four. On the mound, she pitched a complete game with four hits allowed and one earned run.
