Police Failed to Attend Three Quarters of Burglaries in Some Areas Last Year

In 2023, police did not respond to nearly 26,000 home break-ins in England, despite a claim from the National Police Chiefs’ Council that all domestic burglaries would be attended. This has led to accusations that the Tories are letting criminals go unpunished and abandoning victims. The figures, compiled by the Liberal Democrats, show that in Bedfordshire, 77% of domestic burglaries went unattended, the worst record in the country. The Liberal Democrats are calling for a legal Burglary Response Guarantee to ensure that all domestic burglaries are attended and properly investigated.
