Coney Island Welcomes 1,300 New Affordable Homes in Major Housing Development

A grand opening ceremony celebrated the completion of 1607 Surf Avenue, a new affordable housing development in Coney Island, Brooklyn, marking a significant milestone in the revitalization of the neighborhood. The development, a partnership between BFC Partners, L+M Development Partners, and Taconic Investment Partners, will ultimately deliver 1,300 affordable housing units across three phases, providing much-needed housing options for residents and supporting the community’s growth.

Stonestown Galleria Transformation Project Unveils New Renderings

The Stonestown Revitalization Project, a collaboration between Brookfield Properties and the City of San Francisco, aims to transform the Stonestown Galleria into a vibrant town center featuring housing, civic spaces, and retail. The project envisions 3,500 new homes, including affordable housing and dedicated units for seniors and students. Six acres of publicly accessible parks and plazas will provide green spaces for recreation and community gatherings. The redevelopment is expected to create new jobs in construction and on-site employment, as well as funding for park improvements and enhanced Muni transit services.

Horwath Uses ‘Strong Mayor’ Powers to Greenlight Stoney Creek Housing Development

Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath invoked her ‘strong mayor’ powers Wednesday to advance a housing development on two municipally owned parking lots in downtown Stoney Creek. Despite an 8-8 deadlocked vote on the matter, Horwath only needed six councillors to support the project under provincial powers granted by the More Homes Built Faster Act. The new development will include a three-storey building with 24 affordable units and a five-storey building with 43 units.
