Netflix’s web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ has sparked controversy in India, with social media users alleging inaccuracies and demanding a boycott. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has summoned the platform’s content head to address these concerns, which arise from the series’ portrayal of the 1999 hijacking incident.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Netflix series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ of distorting history by using non-Muslim names for the Pakistani terrorists involved in the 1999 hijacking. The party claims this ‘legitimises’ the terrorists’ actions and shifts blame away from their true identities.
