The city of Elgin has been awarded a substantial $10.8 million interest-free loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) towards its ongoing efforts to replace lead water lines. This loan is double the amount initially anticipated by city officials and will significantly reduce the need for bond sales. Additionally, Elgin received a $2 million state grant, which will enable 150 more homes to undergo line replacements before the end of the 2023 program in May.
