Elgin Secures Funding for Lead Water Line Replacements

The city of Elgin has been awarded a substantial $10.8 million interest-free loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) towards its ongoing efforts to replace lead water lines. This loan is double the amount initially anticipated by city officials and will significantly reduce the need for bond sales. Additionally, Elgin received a $2 million state grant, which will enable 150 more homes to undergo line replacements before the end of the 2023 program in May. The loan and grant will allow Elgin to advance its plans to remove lead water lines in a timely and cost-effective manner, as part of the city’s commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water to its residents.
