Crackdown on Illegal Betting and Gambling Ads by Consumer Affairs Ministry

The consumer affairs ministry has taken action against indirect and surrogate advertisements promoting illegal betting and gambling, especially during cricket matches and election campaigns. The ministry has identified violators and is imposing penalties, including banning the operations of betting and gambling apps. Online gaming falls under the purview of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, which will review compliance issues with gaming apps and prepare a list of violators. The ministry is also supporting a study by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences to understand the risks associated with online gaming and frame guidelines for protecting consumers.

Bollywood Actor Sahil Khan Nabs in Chhattisgarh After Cross-Country Run from Maharashtra to Telangana

Sahil Khan, a Bollywood actor and fitness influencer, was apprehended in Chhattisgarh for his alleged involvement in the Mahadev betting app case. Khan was taken into custody at Hotel Aaradhya International and presented before the Shindewadi-Dadar court. According to his lawyer, Khan has been framed in the matter and accused of promoting the app. The actor is accused of running a betting site and promoting illegal betting activities. The Mahadev Betting App case involves over 38 individuals, including Khan, with an estimated scam size of Rs 15,000 crore.

Sahil Khan Arrested in Mahadev Betting App Scam

Bollywood actor Sahil Khan has been taken into police custody until May 1 for his alleged involvement in promoting the illegal Mahadev betting app. The arrest was made by Mumbai’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) after the dismissal of Khan’s bail plea by the Bombay High Court. Khan, known for his roles in films like Aladdin and Style, is among the 32 individuals charged in the case. Other Bollywood celebrities, including Jacqueline Fernandez, Nora Fatehi, and Badshah, have also been questioned regarding their links to the scam.
