Cyclone Remal Triggers Rainfall in Kolkata, IMD Issues Alerts for Multiple States

Heavy rainfall has lashed parts of Kolkata following a ‘Remal’ alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. A low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on May 22nd, which is expected to intensify into a depression by May 24th and further strengthen, reaching the northeast Bay of Bengal by May 25th evening. The IMD forecasts moderate showers in various districts of West Bengal and Odisha on Saturday, May 25th, while isolated areas may experience heavy rainfall. The weather office also predicts rough sea conditions over the Bay of Bengal from May 23rd onwards, with squally weather and strong winds. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.

Heatwave to Subside in Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar; Thunderstorms to Bring Relief

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the heatwave conditions in Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar will subside in three days due to thunderstorm activity in the eastern region. However, similar heatwave conditions will persist in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu for the next four days. The IMD has issued an orange alert for heatwave in Telangana, West Bengal, and coastal Karnataka. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in the northeastern states for the next two days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Mizoram on May 5 and 6. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in the South Peninsula region and East India after three-four days.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Mumbai and Thane, Humidity to Escalate

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and surrounding districts till Thursday due to heightened humidity levels. Heatwave-like conditions are not anticipated, with temperatures remaining around 35 degrees Celsius.
