Bengaluru to Experience Sporadic Rains, Thunderstorms This Week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that Bengaluru will experience spells of rain or thunderstorms this week. The city is expected to have a minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius from May 14 to May 19. The IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky with occasional rain or thundershowers from May 14 to May 17, while May 18-19 may bring isolated rain or thunderstorms. The southwest monsoon is anticipated to reach the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and parts of the Bay of Bengal around May 19.

IMD Predicts Hotter May with Above Normal Heatwave Days

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the number of heatwave days in May 2024 is expected to be above normal in various parts of the country. Specifically, south, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Gujarat are likely to experience 5-8 days more heatwave days than usual, while Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh may see an increase of 2-4 days. Similarly, interior Odisha, Gangetic, Jharkhand, Bihar, north interior Karnataka, Telangana, and parts of north Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh can expect 2-4 more heatwave days. Despite the heatwave prediction, IMD anticipates normal rainfall during the summer months overall.
