While the airport runway remained operational, some parking stands were affected by waterlogging. City police reported ankle-deep water in parts of Kolkata, but traffic was not disrupted. The downpour, attributed to a deep depression shifting towards Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, significantly impacted daily life and transportation in the region.

The IMD has flagged isolated extremely heavy showers over parts of eastern Rajasthan, central India, and the eastern states. Northwest and central regions can expect heavy downpours during 2-4 August, while eastern India is likely to be drenched on 2 August.

India’s northwestern states are bracing for a heavy monsoon spell with significant rainfall expected over the next five days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for several regions, predicting potential weather disruptions and heavy showers. The IMD forecast includes isolated very heavy rainfall in eastern Rajasthan and Uttarakhand throughout the week, while Haryana-Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan are expected to experience heavy rainfall on July 31st. The northernmost regions, including Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, are set to face intense rainfall on July 31st and August 1st. The monsoon trough is active and positioned south of its normal location, with a gradual northward shift expected over the next four to five days. The IMD also predicts heavy rainfall across India’s western coast and central region, with Gujarat anticipated to receive very heavy rainfall on Monday, and Saurashtra and Kutch experiencing similar conditions on Monday and Tuesday. The Konkan and Goa regions are forecast to see very heavy rainfall on August 1st, while eastern Madhya Pradesh is expected to experience similar conditions from July 31st to August 2nd. Central Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh’s ghat areas are also likely to receive heavy rains on August 1st and 2nd. The monsoon, which progressed slowly in June, picked up pace in July, delivering crucial rainfall to southern regions including Kerala, Mahe, coastal Karnataka, and parts of interior Karnataka. These areas are expected to see significant rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, along with northern regions of Tamil Nadu, including Karaikal and the union territory of Puducherry. Odisha, along with northeastern states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh, will also receive very heavy rainfall this week. Parts of West Bengal, near the Himalayas, and Sikkim will experience isolated very heavy rainfall this week.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across central India for the next two days. Meanwhile, Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, has received fresh rainfall after a weak monsoon season. The IMD predicts more rainfall in the state until July 30.
