The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council has announced a new rule that will classify players as uncapped if they haven’t played for India in the last five years. This means former Indian captain MS Dhoni will be considered an uncapped player in IPL 2025, impacting team strategies and potentially leading to more opportunities for younger players.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reviewing the two-bouncer rule and Impact Player rule, leaving state associations uncertain about their implementation in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. While the Impact Player rule has gained support from some, like Zaheer Khan, many remain divided on its effectiveness. The delay in finalizing playing conditions for the tournament has raised concerns within the cricketing community.
Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill believes the Impact Player role has contributed to the high-scoring matches in the ongoing IPL season, providing batters with an extra cushion and license to attack. Despite losing to Delhi Capitals by four runs, Gill praised his team’s fighting spirit and acknowledged DC’s strong comeback, particularly the 113-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel.
