Fatal Scooter Crash in Salt Lake City

A 41-year-old man has passed away after being struck by a car while riding an electric scooter in the Fairpark neighborhood of Salt Lake City. The victim, Ismael Ontivaros, was hit just before 9 p.m. near 800 West and North Temple. While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, police believe impairment may have played a role. The driver of the car remained at the scene and no charges have been filed as of yet. This incident marks the fourth traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City this year.

The driver, a 36-year-old man from Barrie, was charged with impaired driving, obstructing a peace officer, and driving without insurance. His vehicle was impounded for seven days, and his license was suspended for 90 days.
