India is marking World Tourism Day 2024 with a flurry of new initiatives aimed at bolstering its tourism industry. The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) is unveiling a revamped Incredible India portal, strengthening hospitality education, and focusing on rural and responsible tourism, all with the goal of making India a leading global tourism destination.

India’s tourism sector has witnessed a remarkable transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, moving from a focus on brand ambassadors to promoting India as a global destination. This transformation is driven by strategic investments in infrastructure, a focus on new tourism destinations, and a commitment to showcasing India’s diverse cultural heritage to the world.
The Union Ministry of Tourism is participating in IMEX Frankfurt from May 14th-16th, 2024, to promote India as a leading MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) destination. The ministry has identified MICE as a key sector to combat seasonality and promote India as a year-round destination. The ‘Meet in India’ sub-brand within the ‘Incredible India’ campaign aims to highlight India’s excellent connectivity, state-of-the-art infrastructure, knowledge base, and unique tourist attractions. During India’s G20 Presidency, over 200 meetings were held across 56 cities, showcasing India’s MICE infrastructure and cultural heritage. The Ministry of Tourism is working to position India as a premier global hub for MICE activities, with significant progress made in improving internal connectivity and opening new facilities for conferences and conventions.

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, participated in the Arabian Travel Mart 2024 in Dubai from May 6th to May 9th, 2024. The participation aimed to enhance India’s visibility in the Middle East’s tourism market. The Incredible India pavilion was inaugurated by Mr. Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai, and featured a strong presence, including tour operators, luxury hotels, wellness resorts, and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. India promoted itself as a year-round destination and introduced the ‘Cool Summers of India’ campaign to highlight lesser-known cooler destinations, such as hill resorts in the Himalayas.
