IMD Issues Weather Warnings for Several Indian States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for several states across India, including Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Heavy rainfall is expected in these regions until varying dates in June. Additionally, hailstorms and squally winds are forecast for Rajasthan on June 7, while heatwave conditions are likely in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand on the same day.

Akola, Maharashtra, has emerged as the hottest city in India, with temperatures soaring above 45 degrees Celsius. To address the extreme heat, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been enforced until May 31st. Authorities have mandated measures such as providing drinking water, fans, and adjusted timings for private coaching classes to prevent heat stroke.

Torrential Rains Cause Fatalities in Kerala; Red Alert Issued

Incessant rainfall has claimed the lives of four individuals in Kerala, as confirmed by the State’s Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA). Due to the severe weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy showers on Thursday, May 23. In response to the ongoing deluge, Health Minister Veena George has established a state-level control room within the Health Department Directorate.

India Braces for Heavy Rainfall and Heatwave Conditions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting heavy rainfall and heatwave conditions in various parts of India. Southern and northern India are expected to receive significant amounts of rainfall until May 23rd. Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka are expected to experience heavy rainfall on May 21st and 22nd, while Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh will see isolated rainfall. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and North India. Additionally, heatwave conditions are expected in many areas of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
