A short film created by four students from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has been chosen for the renowned La Cinef competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Chidanand S Naik, ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ depicts the turmoil that engulfs a village when an elderly woman steals a rooster. Featuring cinematography by Suraj Thakur, editing by Manoj V, and sound by Abhishek Kadam, the film is one of 18 shorts competing for three La Cinef prizes.
