The council has stated that the junction is being monitored but is not currently included in funding plans.

The number of vehicle breakdowns caused by potholes in the UK has increased by 9% in the past year, according to the RAC. The RAC received 27,205 callouts due to poor road surfaces in the 12 months to the end of March, up from 24,906 in the previous year. Common pothole-related problems include damaged shock absorbers, broken suspension springs, and distorted wheels. While callouts were down by 22% in the first three months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2023, the RAC attributed this to milder weather. Potholes often form when water freezes and expands after entering cracks in the road surface. The RAC’s head of policy, Simon Williams, said that while the data shows a decrease in pothole damage for the first three months of 2023, it’s important to note the ongoing poor state of roads. In October 2023, the Government announced £8.3 billion of extra funding over 11 years to fix potholes in England.

This initiative aims to connect western and central Massachusetts to Boston without the traffic congestion of the Massachusetts Turnpike. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has proposed a massive $900 million, 10-year construction project to replace nine aging bridges and rebuild and widen part of Interstate 80 between Totowa and Hackensack. The bridges, built between 1962 and 1971, are in poor condition and three have been listed among the top 10 most deteriorated bridges in the state. The project will also include reconstructing or repaving 28 entrance and exit ramps and widening 1.6 miles of Route 80’s westbound lanes through Paterson to address congestion and safety concerns. Construction is expected to start at the end of 2027 and be completed in fall of 2037.
A conservative activist group has called on Governor Maura Healey’s top transportation official, Monica Tibbits-Nutt, to resign over her proposal to impose tolls on drivers entering Massachusetts from out of state. The proposal, made during a speech on April 10th, has drawn widespread criticism, with the group arguing that it unfairly targets non-residents and would further burden residents already facing rising living costs.
