Meta’s Facebook and Instagram Experience Global Outage, Affecting Thousands

Meta’s popular social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, encountered a widespread outage affecting numerous users worldwide. According to Downdetector, an outage tracking website, there were over 18,000 reports indicating issues with Instagram, with 59% of users experiencing app access problems. Downdetector tracks outages based on status reports from multiple sources, including user reports. On Twitter, users reported encountering error messages such as “Something went wrong” and “error loading media” when attempting to access the apps. NetBlocks, an internet monitoring group, noted that both social media websites were experiencing international outages. The platform confirmed that the incident was not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering. The outage sparked reactions from users on Twitter, who expressed frustration and humor. Some commented on the frequent outages experienced by the platforms, while others highlighted the challenges of expressing discomfort on social media when services are unavailable.
