The New Democratic Party (NDP) of Canada, which is in a formal understanding with the ruling Liberal Party, will seek “official recognition” of the ‘1984 Sikh genocide’ in the country’s parliament. The issue was addressed by Jagmeet Singh, leader of the NDP, while speaking at the Vaisakhi parade in Surrey, British Columbia, on Saturday. He said, “40th anniversary of Sikh genocide falls in this year. On this occasion, Sikh genocide should be recognised at the Federal level.”

Liberals, NDP in Talks for Budget Approval; Singh Weighs Support

The Liberal government is holding discussions with the New Democratic Party (NDP) to secure support for the federal budget, according to Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland. The budget, which focuses on housing and addresses challenges faced by millennials and Gen Z, promises to build numerous new homes by 2031. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has yet to indicate whether his party will support the budget, having criticized it for not addressing corporate greed.
