Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings has ruled out growing a mustache like his predecessor, Alex Trebek. Jennings joked that the ratings would drop if he tried to emulate Trebek’s iconic facial hair. Despite his self-deprecating humor, many fans would likely tune in to see Jennings pay tribute to Trebek in such a way. Trebek’s mustache was a signature part of his look for many years, but he eventually shaved it off in 2001. He grew it back in 2014, but viewers voted for him to shave it off again. In 2018, the mustache returned, along with a beard, and fans were obsessed. Trebek’s beard made another appearance in a video update during the pandemic in 2020.
Two-day champion Marko Saric’s run on Jeopardy! came to an end after an incorrect answer in Final Jeopardy! sparked widespread ridicule. During the crucial round, the clue asked about an author known for a novel, at least six full-length plays, and a Broadway revue collaboration with Moms Mabley in 1931. Saric incorrectly answered ‘Plath,’ presumably referring to Sylvia Plath, despite the clue clearly indicating a 1931 timeline and no known playwright status for the Bell Jar author. Fans took to social media to mock the answer, with one exclaiming, ‘Dude on Jeopardy really wrote down Plath as his answer when the clue said something about 1931! Like WHAT.’ Saric responded to the backlash on Reddit, admitting that he got caught up on ‘known for a novel’ and quickly jumped to Plath but realized later that the additional information didn’t fit.
