Moore’s Lounge, a beloved Jersey City jazz institution, is facing closure unless fundraising efforts by the local community succeed. The lounge, founded in 1968, has been a hub for jazz musicians and enthusiasts for over 50 years. With the help of renowned drummer Winard Harper, the lounge has hosted open mic jam sessions and curated events that have nurtured countless young musicians. However, financial challenges and the impact of the pandemic have put Moore’s Lounge in jeopardy. The community has rallied to organize benefits and launch a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to save the landmark. The “Beneficial” benefit on April 27th and the “We the People II: Vox Populi” showcase on May 4th are key events in the fundraising efforts. Local hip-hop artists and community leaders are playing an active role in supporting Moore’s Lounge, recognizing its importance as a cultural touchstone in Jersey City.
