Gas Leak Prompts Lockdown at Peterborough School

A gas leak on Armour Road in Peterborough, Ontario, prompted a lockdown at Kaawaate East City Public School on Wednesday. Students and staff were instructed to remain indoors until regular dismissal time as a precaution. Enbridge Gas and Peterborough Fire Services were on the scene to address the leak. The school’s principal, Marguerite Masterson, assured parents and guardians that there was no disruption to the school day and that indoor recess routines were being implemented. Intermediate students, who typically sign out for second lunch, remained inside and were provided food options from the school’s nutrition program. Parents were advised to consider alternate routes to and from the school and avoid using Armour Road. There was no need for early pickup, according to Masterson.
