Kansas City Current Announces Ambitious Stadium Development Expansion

The Kansas City Current, co-owned by Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, has unveiled plans for an extensive mixed-use district adjacent to their newly constructed stadium. This expansion, which could surpass $800 million in total investment, aims to create a vibrant community environment with residential units, public spaces, and a new town square. The project, initiated in 2020 by co-owners Angie Long, Chris Long, and Brittany Mahomes, has already secured $200 million in private funding. Upon completion in 2026, the development will connect the stadium to Berkley Riverfront Park and the Missouri Riverfront, offering movie nights, food festivals, and fitness classes. Notably, 10% of the housing will be designated as affordable units, reflecting the club’s commitment to inclusivity.

The Kansas City Current, in partnership with Palmer Square Capital Management, Marquee Development, and the Port Authority of Kansas City, has unveiled plans for a transformative next phase in the development of Berkley Riverfront Park. This ambitious project aims to connect Kansas Citians with the Missouri Riverfront and enhance the city’s vibrant waterfront district.

Building on the success of CPKC Stadium, the first purpose-built women’s professional sports stadium globally, the new development will create a mixed-use district anchored by the stadium, Berkley Riverfront Park, and the Missouri Riverfront. With over $200 million in private funding, the project will add hundreds of multi-family residential units, public gathering spaces, a riverfront promenade, and recreational areas designed for all Kansas Citians.

The development is expected to break ground in late 2024 and aims for completion by 2026. It will extend Kansas City’s urban fabric to the water’s edge, creating a pedestrian-friendly haven for residents, fans, and visitors.

Angie Long, co-founder and co-owner of the KC Current, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s potential to reconnect the city with its riverfront and bring added vitality to the area. Marquee Development will serve as Co-Master Developer alongside the Kansas City Current, bringing expertise from notable sports-adjacent mixed-use districts. Perkins Eastman has been engaged as the Architect, recognized for their work on world-class waterfront projects and transit-integrated mixed-use districts.
