Hubballi Man Kills Woman After Marriage Proposal Rejection; Police Arrest Accused

A 22-year-old man named Girish, also known as Vishwa, has been arrested by the Karnataka Police for the murder of a 20-year-old woman, Anjali Ambiger, in Hubballi on Wednesday. The victim’s family alleges that they had informed the police about the accused’s threats against the victim, who was stabbed to death at her home in Veerapur Oni. Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar stated that the accused will be taken into custody after receiving medical treatment for severe facial and head injuries. A police inspector and a woman head constable have been suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the incident. The murder comes after the recent stabbing death of another young woman, Neha Hiremath, by her former classmate in Hubballi in April. The incidents have raised concerns about the safety of women in the area.

BJP Leaders Summoned by Karnataka Police Over Tweet Targeting SC/ST Community

Karnataka Police have summoned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda and the party’s IT-cell head, Amit Malviya, in connection with a tweet posted by BJP Karnataka that allegedly targeted the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) community. The tweet, which was posted on May 4, 2019, has been deemed offensive and has sparked a complaint with the Election Commission. Police have asked the BJP leaders to appear before the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru within seven days. The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
