A delegation of village leaders from Arunachal Pradesh’s Mebo Assembly Constituency embarked on a two-day eco-tourism tour of Kaziranga National Park, returning with a vision to implement similar sustainable development strategies in their own region, centered around the D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary. The trip, supported by the Sigar Military Station, showcased how eco-tourism can benefit local communities and inspire conservation efforts.

Kaziranga National Park Reopens for Tourists, Marking the Start of a New Season

Kaziranga National Park, renowned for its one-horned rhinoceros population and diverse wildlife, will reopen its gates to tourists on October 1st, 2024, signaling the start of a new season. The park, which is temporarily closed each year due to monsoon floods, will initially offer Jeep Safaris in select areas as officials prioritize visitor safety. While the park has suffered significant wildlife losses due to this year’s devastating floods, it remains a vital conservation site and a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts.

Assam Floods: 21 Lakh Affected, Death Toll Rises to 52

Assam continues to grapple with severe flooding, affecting over 21 lakh people across 29 districts and claiming 52 lives. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected areas, assuring improvement in the situation. However, breaches in embankments continue to pose challenges. The Kaziranga National Park has reported the deaths of 31 animals due to the floods, while Morigaon district remains severely impacted, with thousands seeking refuge on embankments.
