Knox boxes are wall-mounted safes that store building keys, allowing firefighters to gain entry without having to force their way in. The ordinance was unanimously passed by the borough council on April 11th. Firefighters welcome the ordinance, citing the time and hassle it saves during emergencies. Businesses and property owners are encouraged to consult with firefighters for convenient knox box placement. Violations of the ordinance will result in a $600 daily fine until the issue is resolved.
