Manipur is facing a serious security threat as intelligence reports indicate the infiltration of over 900 Kuki militants from Myanmar. These militants, reportedly trained in advanced weaponry and jungle warfare, pose a significant risk to the state’s security. The situation is further complicated by the ongoing ethnic clashes within Manipur and the volatile situation along the India-Myanmar border.
The Manipur government, led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, has demanded control over the Unified Command, a security body run by the Home Ministry, amid escalating violence in the state. The demand comes after a fresh wave of attacks by Kuki militants, including the use of long-range rockets, which resulted in civilian casualties. The Manipur government has also called for the scrapping of a Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki insurgent groups, raising concerns about the central government’s role in addressing the crisis.
