Paris-based distributor Le Pacte has acquired French rights to Francis Ford Coppola’s ambitious $120 million self-financed epic ‘Megalopolis,’ according to a report from Le Point magazine. The acquisition comes ahead of the film’s world premiere in Competition at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. Le Pacte CEO Jean Labadie played down the reports but did not deny talks, stating that nothing has been signed yet. The deal for Le Pacte to distribute ‘Megalopolis’ in France has raised questions about its financial implications due to France’s strict windowing rules, which require a 17-month gap between a theatrical release and a film’s launch on streaming platforms. However, Le Pacte has a history of savvy acquisitions, including Justine Triet’s Oscar-winning ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ and Maïwenn’s ‘Jeanne du Barry’ starring Johnny Depp.
