Five RCMP officers were found to have acted reasonably when they shot and killed a 27-year-old man on Highway 2 near Leduc, Alberta, in May 2020. The man, who had previously fired at police officers and a civilian in Blackfalds, pointed a gun at an officer after his vehicle was stopped by a spike belt. The officers fired a total of 22 shots, seven of which struck the man. An autopsy determined that the man died from multiple gunshot wounds and had consumed cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol.
