The Jane Austen’s House Museum has acquired a handwritten memoir by Jane Austen’s brother, Admiral Sir Francis Austen, and is seeking public assistance in transcribing it. The 79-page manuscript, written in 1863, is expected to shed new light on the family life and experiences of one of English literature’s most beloved writers. The museum has received an overwhelming response with over 2,000 volunteers offering their help within the first 24 hours. The transcription project will provide researchers and enthusiasts with valuable insights into Austen’s family dynamics and the possible influences on her famous characters.
