£350,000 Funding for LGBT Armed Forces Veterans Memorial

Campaigners have received £350,000 to establish a memorial honoring LGBT veterans. Following pressure from the Sunday Mirror and Fighting With Pride (FWP), Chancellor Rishi Sunak apologized to 20,000 service members who were jailed, dismissed, or involuntarily outed due to their sexual orientation before the military’s gay ban was lifted in 2000. The memorial, proposed for the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, will commemorate all LGBT service personnel, including those affected by the ban.
