Cubs Pitcher Luke Little Forced to Change Glove Due to American Flag Patch

Chicago Cubs reliever Luke Little was required to change his glove before entering Wednesday night’s game against the Houston Astros due to an American flag patch on his glove. The umpires cited MLB regulations prohibiting white on pitchers’ gloves, deeming the flag a potential distraction to batters. Despite having to break in a new glove mid-game, Little retired both batters he faced and expressed pride in his country following the victory.

Cubs’ Hendricks, Smyly Land on IL; Cooper DFA’d, Mervis Recalled

The Chicago Cubs have announced several roster moves, with Kyle Hendricks and Drew Smyly being placed on the 15-day injured list. Right-hander Hayden Wesneski and left-hander Luke Little were recalled in corresponding moves. Garrett Cooper was designated for assignment to make room for Matt Mervis on the 40-man roster. Hendricks, 34, has struggled mightily to start the season, posting a 12.00 ERA in five starts. Smyly is sidelined due to a hip impingement. The Cubs will now need to determine how to fill the void in their rotation during a stretch where they play 16 consecutive games.
