Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Goes Electric with Impressive Off-Road Capabilities

The iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen has finally unveiled its electric version, officially named the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology. While many expected it to join the EQ family as the EQG, Mercedes has opted to retain the traditional G-Class moniker. This electric SUV boasts an impressive powertrain with four electric motors delivering 432kW and 1164Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 180km/h. The G 580 features a 116kWh battery pack that provides a range of 473km on the WLTP cycle. Despite its electric nature, it maintains exceptional off-road capabilities with a reduction gear for low-range driving, virtual differential locks, and the ability to drive up 45-degree grades. The G 580 also offers unique features like G-Turn for spinning on its axis and G-Steering for reduced turning circles.
