The Maharashtra government has approved a proposal to rename Pune International Airport after Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj. The proposal will now be sent to the central government for final approval. The decision comes after requests from the local community and the Warkari sect, who revere Tukaram Maharaj.
The Maharashtra government has allocated ₹10 crore to the Waqf Board for the welfare of minorities in the financial year 24-25. This move has been opposed by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), accusing the government of religious appeasement. The VHP claims that the government’s decision will be met with backlash from Hindus in upcoming elections. The Maharashtra BJP president, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, clarified that the funds are allocated for the digitisation of the Waqf Board to identify and correct any land wrongly acquired from Hindus, tribals, and backward classes.
The Bombay High Court has issued a notice to BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in response to a petition filed by the Maharashtra government seeking cancellation of his bail granted in an attempt to murder case. The bail was granted by the Sindhudurg session court in February 2022.
