Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rains, Orange Alert Issued for City and Surrounding Districts

Mumbai and several districts in Maharashtra are facing an orange alert for heavy rainfall today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of Konkan from August 24th onwards. The alert also extends to Pune and Satara in western Maharashtra and some districts in Vidarbha. This follows an earlier warning of heavy rainfall in the next 3-4 hours for Mumbai and its suburbs.

Maharashtra Opposition to Hold Silent Protests Against School Abuse Incident

The Maharashtra opposition, consisting of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP), will hold peaceful demonstrations on Saturday to protest against a sexual abuse incident in a school, despite a Bombay High Court ruling against a state-wide bandh. The opposition leaders and workers will tie black bands around their mouths and carry black flags to express their dissent against the Mahayuti government.

Congress Demands Removal of Special Prosecutor in Badlapur Sexual Assault Case

The Maharashtra Congress has demanded the removal of special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and the head of the SIT investigating the Badlapur sexual assault case, citing concerns about their impartiality. The incident involves the sexual assault of two four-year-old girls at a school in Thane district. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has also criticized Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over the handling of the case.
