Large House Fire in Marlborough Damages Power Lines, Forces Evacuations

A house fire broke out in Calgary’s Marlborough neighborhood on Saturday night, causing significant damage and forcing the evacuation of eight residents and several pets. The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to the blaze on Memorial Drive around 11:20 p.m., facing a large fire fueled by a heat-damaged natural gas meter. Firefighters used hose streams from outside to extinguish the flames and keep the gas meter under control, while ATCO Gas and Enmax secured the utilities. The fire also damaged overhead power lines, but no other homes were affected. Firefighters worked through the night to put out hotspots, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
