Jessica’s Traumatic Birth Experience: A Reminder of the Importance of Maternity Care

Jessica Pinder’s birth experience with her son Jax was a traumatic one. Despite a straightforward pregnancy, her labor was filled with complications and resulted in a vacuum-assisted delivery and episiotomy. Jax was born not breathing and suffered from seizures, nerve damage, and facial injuries. Jessica was diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, and depression as a result of the trauma. She was fortunate to receive support from the IAPT service and now advocates for other women through the Birth Trauma Association.
