Australian Cannabis Growers Eyeing European Market Boom

Australian cannabis cultivators are capitalizing on the burgeoning European cannabis scene, securing multi-million dollar export deals, particularly to Germany, which has recently relaxed its cannabis laws. This growth is fueled by the increasing acceptance of medical marijuana in Europe, with a projected market value of $3.3 billion by 2027. Australian companies are also looking to France, anticipating full legalization of medical cannabis in 2025. Meanwhile, Australian scientists are conducting research on the therapeutic effects of medical marijuana, specifically focusing on menstrual pain relief. Despite this progress, the NSW premier has ruled out decriminalization of cannabis for personal use.

Kansas Legislators Block Efforts to Legalize Medical Marijuana and Expand Medicaid

Kansas remains one of a handful of states that have not legalized medical marijuana or expanded Medicaid, despite efforts to change these laws. On Friday, Republican state senators blocked a push to force debates on both issues before the Legislature’s adjournment next week. Supporters of each measure did not garner enough votes to advance the bills out of committee. Kansas voters cannot put proposed laws on the ballot statewide, which has allowed similar measures to pass in other states.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has been a vocal advocate for both expansion, linking medical marijuana legalization to Medicaid expansion. Despite her efforts and public campaigning, the Medicaid expansion vote failed by a narrow margin.
