China’s Ministry of State Security has accused the United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service MI6 of recruiting Chinese state employees as spies. The Chinese ministry claims that MI6 operatives turned a Chinese man identified as Wang and his wife Zhou against Beijing. According to the ministry, MI6 began cultivating Wang in 2015 when he went to the UK for his studies. The ministry alleges that Wang and Zhou collected intelligence for MI6 and that the UK took ‘special care’ of them. The Chinese government has condemned the alleged spying activities and said that an investigation is ongoing.

In the season finale of Red Eye, we finally learn who killed Shen Zhao and why. Mike Maxwell, a CIA operative, is revealed to be the mastermind behind her death and the subsequent framing of Matthew Nolan. Maxwell was working with Air Marshall Zhang and the plane killer, both of whom were being paid indirectly by the CIA. Their goal was to stop the information on the nano-SIM Shen Zhao implanted in Matthew’s body from reaching MI6. The SIM contained two files: one containing hacker code that could be used to take control of an operating system, and another that was altered to make it look like it was written by the Chinese. Shen Zhao gave both files to MI6 so that they would see the original hack and the one that was supposed to look Chinese, preventing China from considering it an act of war by America. In the end, Maxwell is arrested by Chinese soldiers and Matthew survives after being shot by Maxwell. Delaney decides not to share the contents of the SIM with the Chinese authorities, and Hana reveals that Delaney shared her mother’s file so that she and her father will finally know the truth.
