Marlins Relegate A.J. Puk to Bullpen Following Rotation Experiment

Miami Marlins’ A.J. Puk, initially designated as a starter, will return to the bullpen upon his recovery from a shoulder injury. Despite promising potential as a starter, Puk’s struggles with injuries and underwhelming rotation performance prompted the decision. The Marlins’ rotation has faced depletion due to trades and injuries, initially leading to Puk’s promotion. However, poor results and Puk’s injury have led to a shift in strategy, with the team seeking stability and depth in their pitching staff.

Marlins Catchers: The Worst in MLB History

The Miami Marlins have struggled mightily at the catcher position since trading J.T. Realmuto in 2019. Their current tandem of Nick Fortes and Christian Bethancourt has combined for a .068/.117/.096 slash line, ranking as the worst in MLB history through the first 25 games of the season. Despite recognizing the need for improvement, the Marlins have made no significant effort to address the position, even as veteran options have become available. While Fortes and Bethancourt may eventually improve offensively, the lack of depth and long-term solutions in the organization remains a major concern.

Fried Dominates Marlins Again as Braves Roll to 5-0 Win

Max Fried continued his dominance over the Miami Marlins with a complete-game shutout, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 5-0 victory. Fried allowed only three hits and struck out six batters, improving his record to 2-0 against Miami this season. The Braves’ offense provided ample support, scoring two unearned runs in the second inning and three more in the fifth, including a two-run homer from Adam Duvall.

Braves Blank Marlins 3-0 Behind Elder’s Gem, d’Arnaud’s Homer

Travis d’Arnaud’s hot streak continued with a two-run homer in the fourth, while Bryce Elder pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings in his return from the minors as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Miami Marlins 3-0 on Monday night. Elder, recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett earlier in the day, scattered eight hits while striking out four and walking none in his first major league start of the season. d’Arnaud’s homer was his fifth in the past four games, and David Fletcher added an RBI single to cap the Braves’ three-run fourth inning. The Braves bullpen held the Marlins scoreless over the final 2 1/3 innings, with Raisel Iglesias earning his seventh save of the season.

Travis d’Arnaud’s Homer, Bryce Elder’s Return Lead Braves Past Marlins 3-0

Travis d’Arnaud continued his power surge with his fifth home run in the past three games, and Bryce Elder tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings in his major league debut of the season as the Atlanta Braves blanked the Miami Marlins 3-0 on Monday. Elder, last year’s All-Star who began the season with Triple-A Gwinnett, scattered eight hits and struck out four without issuing a walk. A.J. Minter set an Atlanta record with his 108th hold, and Raisel Iglesias notched his seventh save.

Bryce Elder to Join Braves Rotation After Darius Vines Optioned

The Atlanta Braves have made a roster move, optioning starting pitcher Darius Vines to Triple-A Gwinnett. Bryce Elder has been recalled from Gwinnett and will start on Monday against the Miami Marlins. Elder was expected to be the first starter called up after Spencer Strider went down for the season with a torn UCL. However, Allan Winans and Darius Vines got the first few starts due to the way the rotation worked out. Vines showed a lot of promise in his two starts, allowing only one run over 4.2 innings against the Astros and cruising against the Rangers before allowing a couple of home runs in the fourth inning. Elder is 2-0 with a 3.31 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 16.1 innings in three starts for the Stripers this season.
