HP’s ‘Composable MicroLED Monitors’ Promise Lego-Like Display Building

HP researchers envision a modular display system that allows users to customize their monitor setup by connecting different screen modules like Lego blocks. The concept, detailed in a research paper, features a ‘core unit’ that can be expanded horizontally and vertically with flat or curved extensions. The design uses jigsaw-like connections and magnets to ensure alignment, with physical switches on the modules allowing users to configure how the operating system treats each part. HP explored various module sizes and shapes, including curved and flat options. However, the key challenge is minimizing the visibility of seams between the modules. HP suggests techniques such as minimizing gaps or using software solutions to disguise joints. The concept aligns with Samsung’s earlier ‘The Link’ display, which involved stacking monitors and connecting them wirelessly. While HP’s ‘Composable MicroLED Monitors’ remain a concept, they hint at the potential for customizable and flexible display setups in the future.
