The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is shifting its conservancy operations to midnight in a bid to streamline garbage clearance and minimize disruptions to the public. This move, initially piloted on 400 bus-route roads and highways, has yielded positive results with reduced traffic and easier movement of machinery. The GCC will continue morning sweeping for interior roads but will consider midnight drives for busy roads on a case-by-case basis. This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to efficient waste management and addresses the challenges posed by heavy traffic during daytime operations.
