Inheritance Tax Debate Heats Up, Opposition’s Remarks Draw Fire

The issue of inheritance tax and wealth redistribution has become a contentious topic in the ongoing political discourse. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leaders have engaged in a war of words, with each side accusing the other of attempting to undermine the hard-earned wealth of individuals. The debate was ignited by comments from Indian Overseas Congress president Sam Pitroda, who suggested exploring the idea of inheritance tax. Modi seized on these remarks, claiming that the Opposition party sought to seize people’s wealth and tax them even after their death. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh countered these accusations, pointing to past statements by BJP leaders, including former finance minister Arun Jaitley, who expressed support for the concept of inheritance tax. Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar condemned Modi’s attacks on a particular community, calling them unacceptable and shameful. Other political figures, including Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and Bharat Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrashekar Rao, have also weighed in on various issues, including the mangalsutra debate and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Enforcement Directorate has submitted its response to a petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, denying allegations of malicious intent in his arrest and attributing it to his uncooperative attitude.
