Denny Hamlin’s race at Talladega Superspeedway ended prematurely due to an on-track incident involving a puddle on pit road. Hamlin spun after hitting a puddle, causing a spin that ultimately led to a multi-car wreck involving several Toyota drivers. The incident highlighted an issue with water seeping up through cracks in the track surface when the weather is wet. Hamlin explained that the track surface acts like a squeegee, pushing water out through any available cracks. Unfortunately, Hamlin’s car ran through one such puddle, leading to the spin.
